Goodman Theatre and Akira Team up for “Scene Soirée”

Published by Trendy Magazine

THE FLAIR OF CROWNS AND FASHION OF AKIRA COLLIDE IN SCENEMAKERS’ FIRST MAJOR FUNDRAISER

Goodman Theatre’s Scenemakers Board, in association with fashion label AKIRA and men’s club John Allan’s, hosted the first-ever Scene Soirée at John Allan’s Penthouse. Hats and costume renderings of Regina Taylor’s 10th anniversary production of Crowns (at Goodman Theatre June 30 – August 5) shared the spotlight with FORD models donning the latest AKIRA apparel, the beats of DJ Madrid and a silent auction. The Scene Soirée is an effort of the Goodman’s Scenemakers Board, a nearly 40-member young professionals group that supports the Goodman through fundraising, audience development and advocacy.

The silent action included items from Catch 35, Equinox Gym, Hard Rock Café, Joffrey Ballet, Lookingglass Theatre Company, Museum of Contemporary Art, N9NE Steak House, Phil Stefani Signature Restaurants, Steppenwolf Theatre, Trump and theWit Hotel.

Nearly 80 Chicago young people will participate in Goodman Theatre’s free six-week summer program, General Theatre Studies (GTS), running late June through early August. Participants, ages 14-19, learn all elements of theater production as well as critical thinking, literacy and storytelling skills from local theater professionals. This summer program introduces participants to all elements of the creation of theater, both on stage and behind the scenes, using personal history and storytelling techniques.

All proceeds from the event benefit Goodman Theatre’s free six-week summer program, General Theater Studies, for Chicago young people.
